With Christmas just around the corner, it's always a good time to stock up on handmade gifts. The Metro Clutch by Modkid is an excellent pattern to have on hand. Not only does it sew up fairly quickly, but it also uses very little fabric and no specialty hardware other than a magnetic clasp, which are pretty common and easy to find. I was able to sew these three clutches up in one sewing session. By the time I got to the third one, I was able to put it together in probably 20 minutes. So this would be perfect for a last minute gift or a gift that you could make several of to have on hand just in case. They are the perfect size to fill with a few extra goodies to make the gift extra special.
This clutch would make a nifty diaper clutch if you are out and about and only need to carry a few extras with you. On this one I left off the twisted fabric detail just experimenting with how it looked. The fabric is really bold, so I don't think it needs anything extra to make it pop.
We found that these little clutches aren't really so little and can in fact hold several items securely for running errands or whatever things you need to accomplish in the day. It's obviously not a day-tripper bag, but it is large enough to hold several necessities for a short occasion.
The dramatic shape of this clutch lends itself to a variety of fabrics--don't be afraid to try some specialty fabric to match a special occasion gown or night out on the town. I simply stuck to cotton fabric, but I think it would look especially classy in a silk organza. This pattern is considered a lite pattern. There are no pattern pieces (but it's super easy to make your own following the instructions). I made my pattern pieces and kept them so that the next time I want to sew one of these adorable clutches, I am all set to go. There are just 2 half pages of step-by-step illustrated instructions. It really is a quick and easy sew. After the first clutch, I didn't even need the instructions.
